‘WandaVision’ Hype Causes Disney+ Outage
Talk about must-see-TV.
Having only just gotten into WandaVision in the last couple of weeks, I totally get all the hype surrounding it now. Without going into any spoilers, it’s a surprisingly compelling mystery bookended by some classic TV sitcom shenanigans and Marvel worldbuilding. It makes sense now that the lion’s share of current Disney+ subscribers signed on with the express intent of watching this show every Thursday night/Friday morning. Though, if this morning was any indication, perhaps a few too many people have their hype thrusters firing.
Episode 7 of WandaVision went up on Disney+ in the wee hours of the morning today, but so many people logged onto the service at once to watch it, it buckled under the pressure, briefly going down. The outage only lasted for about 10 minutes, but for many users on Twitter, it was the longest 10 minutes they’ve ever experienced.

The WandaVision hype train has only gained steam with each subsequent episode, with analytical firm Parrot Analytics naming it the most in-demand show on TV right now according to the buzz on social media, ratings, and even piracy reports. According to the Nielsen ratings, back when the show first premiered, the first two episodes were watched a total of 6.5 million times.
“When we see a binge release series like we do on Netflix, weâre seeing demand skyrocket at first for like a week,â Wade Payson-Denney, an insights analyst for Parrot Analytics, told Forbes. âWhereas with weekly release, we see popularity gradually build over time, especially for a show like âThe Mandalorianâ and âWandaVision.ââ
It’s safe to say that after the most recent episode, the hype will not be dying down until the show ends, and probably not for a little while after that.
