Waiver Mentions Death 3 Times in OceanGate Sub Expedition

New revelations have shed light on the nature of OceanGate expeditions, following the news of a missing submersible that likely imploded en route to the Titanic wreckage.

Mike Reiss, the former showrunner of The Simpsons and a veteran of four OceanGate trips, including one to the Titanic, disclosed details about the extensive waiver passengers must sign before embarking on these ventures. Reiss revealed, “It is always in the back of your head that this is dangerous, and any small problem will turn into a major catastrophe. There’s a long release. You sign a waiver that mentions death three times on the first page. It’s just that they’ve thought of everything. They want to ensure you know exactly what you’re getting into.”

During all four of his 10-hour dives in an OceanGate submersible, Reiss experienced a loss of communication with the main ship. “Every time they lost communication,” he explained, “that seems to be just something baked into the system.”

Reiss also described the submersible’s navigation, consisting of only two fans for propulsion, and highlighted the absence of GPS, which led the crew to search for the Titanic for three hours despite landing just 500 yards away from the wreckage.

While expressing respect and admiration for OceanGate’s work, Reiss believes this incident should serve as a warning for the future of extreme tourism, including deep-sea and space exploration. He emphasized, “It should be a wake-up call for everyone that things can go wrong. I’m sure they’re doing their very best to keep their passengers safe, but things will go wrong. There will be an incident like this at some point.”

Following the sub’s disappearance, the U.S. Coast Guard initiated a large-scale search-and-rescue mission on June 18. However, officials confirmed during a press conference on June 22 that the debris found was consistent with a catastrophic loss of the pressure chamber, indicating a tragic outcome.

As more details emerge about OceanGate expeditions and the risks involved, the incident serves as a reminder of the inherent dangers associated with these ventures and the need for careful consideration of safety measures in extreme tourism.
