The former quarterback has returned with a fresh contract.
Back in 2015, the Carolina Panthers brought home the Super Bowl, thanks in no small part to their superstar quarterback, Cam Newton. Newton was nicknamed “Super Cam” because every time he got a touchdown, he’d mime tearing his jersey open like Clark Kent revealing his Superman outfit under his shirt. Unfortunately, Newton left the team last year for the New England Patriots, but today, thanks to some fresh contract negotiation, Super Cam is returning in the Panthers’ colors.
According to a source that spoke to ESPN, the Panthers have signed Newton back on with a $10 million contract for the remainder of the season. $4.5 million of that contract is guaranteed on signing, and there’s a $1.5 million roster bonus on top of that.
In addition to being an incredible quarterback, Newton’s teammates remember him with a particular fondness that they’re looking forward to experiencing again. “There’s a lot of important people in South Carolina and North Carolina, but Cam Newton is probably right up there at the top two or top one,” said cornerback Stephon Gilmore.

“Everybody knows Cam as a superstar,” said wide receiver DJ Moore. “But within the locker room he brings a different energy.”
“We had a heartfelt, sincere discussion with him and it wasn’t about anything in the past,” general manager Scott Fitterer said. “It was more about what are we going to do now moving forward and what is Cam’s role and how can he help us and what can we do to support him.”
Panthers management is hoping that the return of Super Cam will give the team a better shot at making this year’s playoffs.
