Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, marking the end of a relationship steeped in decades of history and public fascination.

Lopez, 54, filed the paperwork herself and notably did so without legal representation. According to reports, there was no prenuptial agreement in place, and Lopez has waived any claims to spousal support, requesting that the court deny Affleck any such claims as well. The official date of separation is listed as April 26, 2024, though the couple’s legal split was publicly announced on August 15.

The pair, who eloped in Las Vegas on July 16, 2022, chose August 20 as the date for their more traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia, symbolically marking the second anniversary of their nuptials. Their whirlwind romance first began in 2002 on the set of the film Gigli, and they were quickly engaged. Their relationship, which included a high-profile engagement and various public appearances, ended in 2004 amid intense media scrutiny.

Lopez and Affleck’s first split was attributed to the overwhelming press coverage that complicated their relationship. “It was the biggest heartbreak of my life, and I honestly felt like I was going to die,” Lopez revealed in a 2022 interview with Zane Lowe.
